India's Participation in development of Iran's Chabahar port - Strategic implications

India has announced its participation in the development of Chabahar port of Iran. This port is just 76 km from Pakistan's Gwadar port which is operated by China.

Prospects and consequences:

1. Afghanistan has a strategic position in Middle, South and East Asia - especially for India and Pakistan, and for China via Pakistan. Pakistan wants to have strategic control by providing its port facility of Gwadar as Afghanistan is a land-locked country. By giving China operating rights, Pakistan virtually made Afghanistan to submit to China.
By participating in development of Chabahar port, India successfully tried to nullify Pakistan-China effort to solely utilize the strategic position of Afghanistan.
a. It provided an alternative to Afghanistan to reach Arabian Sea.
b. This way, India can strengthen its relation with Afghanistan.
c. This also strengthens its relation with energy-rich Iran

2. China, by obtaining operating rights of Gwadar, strengthened its String of Pearls encircling India. India by having developing participation in Chabahar can cut across the String and can have a close eye on its activities in Gwadar.

3. Strait of Hormuz is the most important route of world's energy passage. China got additional advantage by having Gwadar. It can deploy its operating unit to keep eye on the route and need no time in any action required by it for its gain. India also minimized it as she can serve as buffer for other countries who would oppose China's this move. Also they can align with India. In this case India can have strategic gain of its position more near to Strait of Hormuz.

The legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan

His work has had a fundamental role in the development of 20th century mathematics and his final writings are serving as an inspiration for the mathematics of this century On a height he stood that looked towards greater heights. Our early approaches to the Infinite Are sunrise splendours on a marvellous verge While lingers yet unseen the glorious sun. What now we see is a shadow of what must come. Sri Aurobindo, Savitri, 1.4 The story of Srinivasa Ramanujan is a 20th century “rags to mathematical riches” story. In his short life, Ramanujan had a wealth of ideas that have transformed and reshaped 20th century mathematics. These ideas continue to shape mathematics of the 21st century. This article seeks to give a panoramic view of his essential contributions. Born on December 22, 1887 in the town of Erode in Tamil Nadu, Ramanujan was largely self-taught and emerged from extreme poverty to become one of the most influential mathematicians of the 20th c...

Juvenile Legislation - Neuroscience and beyond

3 years back, Nirbhaya case created a stir in society as it saw a lower abyss in society. 6 persons were convicted for the heinous crime of rape, one of them was a juvenile. The  same juvenile created another stir when he walked out of juvenile rehabilitation home in December 2015. Icing to the cake of stirs was amendment of Juvenile Justice Act which added the provision that a juvenile of age between 16 to 18 be treated as adult for heinous crimes. Though this amendment has been criticized, but most peculiar and scientific criticism has come from Neuroscience professionals. They argue that the part called frontal lobe - the front part of the brain, is underdeveloped at the age between 16-18. This is the part which is responsible for decision making, impulse control, judgement and emotions. They further argue that in the condition of stress, the same frontal lobe shrinks losing their capacity to process information. In turn, the back of brain Amygdala - which is responsible fo...

Counterfeit Notes

Counterfeit notes that are not easily identified sometimes drives us into tight corners. Not all of us have the ‘currency knowledge’ to find the difference, which can be known only after minute scrutiny. Here is how you can recognize it: See if the note is crisp and thin. The notes are printed on optical fiber paper. Fake notes are printed on thick paper make of bamboo pulp. If it is a Xeroxed note the colour and print look faded. Look for the ‘Intaglio” on the denomination i.e.1000,500,100,50 20 ,10 or 5 ( the embossed print that enables the blind to touch and know the denomination of the currency). The chemical’omran’ is used to print in ‘Intaglio’ which looks bright. Intaglio will be missing in counterfeit notes. Look at the note against the light, for the fine and shining ‘security band’on the right side of ‘Intaglio’ look for the faint water mark For a genuine currency note, the number panel will be regular and when scrutinized against ultra violet rays, the letters printed ...
